This letter was sent from my father, Leonard George Thomas McColl, to his mother whilst he was stationed in Durban during the war.

6/11/41

My dearest Mother and family,

Well darlings I guess you think the mail is pretty terrible, but when we get settled down everything will be O.K. & the sooner the better as none of the boys have received any yet.

How are you you keeping folks O.K. I hope.

These snaps are of one of the ports we stopped in for a few days & believe me its a wonderful city the people here treat us as if we were their own sons.

Rides on the buses are all free & you can get a [unclear] sweets & tea for about 9d & as for oranges and bananas they are a sack of about 50 for 1/4d. I have never had so much fruit in my life & will be sorry to leave this place.

I will be sending [unclear] photos on next time. I hope you like them.
