The letter was received by Val Wood in Grandborough, Warwickshire and sent from Hubert from D.A.F Training Flight, RAF, Central Mid Forces.

My Dear Val,

I was so pleased to get your letter today dated the 4th, it was a long time hearing from you wasn't it but never mind I quite realise what it is like when you are busy in your work. I have my funny moments at times I've got a half day to myself today so I am hoping to catch up with my mail. Well I was very pleased to hear that you are all quite well as Home, I am feeling grand, but have had enought of being away from Home, it seems a life time since I saw you last, but I hope it won't be long now before I am back with you all, I don't suppose I shall be Home before my time is up, now but I have only four months to do and then I should be on my way, so you can expect me Home for Xmas and won't I be glad when it comes. Well Val you said that you would like to hear me speak on the wireless, there no chance where we are. The people that you hear speaking is the blokes that are at Base Stations, You very seldom hear anone speak from a mobile unit. I was sorry to hear that you have been ill with the measles, I hope you are better now, I was lucky not to have had them when Fred and I had them that time, I don't know how it is but I don't seem to get Mums letters through very well. I get one every so often, but when Alice writes I get her letters in about five days. I had one from her the other day but she didn't mention anything about her accident. Im sorry to hear about that, is she O.K. now? I haven't received the cigs yet Val, I expect that they will roll up one of these day, unless someone is short. Thanks for sending them.

Yes I got the picture book OK Val. It was quite good wasn't it. I think it is still in my bag somewhere. No Val, I don’t think it would be much use sending books out to me thank you, I don’t have a lot of time for reading, most of my time off is taken up with letter writing. Yes I guess Janet does get a nice baby, Maggie is lucky to have two children like that. Margaret must be getting a big girl now.

I'm glad you liked the Photo's that I sent you Val, I didn't know when I shall be getting some taken, I might think about it later on, what made you like the first one I sent you, better than the last, was it the waves in my hair? What would make them look different, would be the dress I was dressed in Battle dress the first time then when I went on leave of course I had to wear my Blue, complete with African Star and clasp (AHHH). Well Val I would like to get one of your Photos, it would give me an idea how you are looking at Home. Yes I [unclear] in the Papers that Mam sends me, that there is a lot of strangers in the Village, are they living there for good, it looks as though I'll be a stranger about the place when I get back. Well Val I'm afraid I shall have to pack up now, so here's hoping to hear from you again soon. Give my best to Mam and all at Home. Cheerio. Fondest love from Hubert [many kisses]
