My dad discovered this note in his sandwich box when sat on the train when he was setting off to join his regiment for the first time. It was very special to him and he carried it throughout the war in the chest pocket of his uniform. It became his most precious possession.
Dad was a proud member of 48 RM Commando and was one of the first four wheel vehicles to disembark the landing craft on Juno Beach at Saint Aubin on D.Day.
Sky actually made a short film about Dad in 2019 to celebrate 75 years since D Day. Unfortunately he passed away two weeks before the film was transmitted.
