W Herman to the parents of Tom Gallagher

The letter was sent to my grandparents regarding their son Tom (my uncle). His son sent me a copy of the letter.

Dear Mr. Mrs. Gallagher and Family.

I hope you don't mind me writing to you all this way but I thought it was my duty as I have been with your son "Tom" over here all through this campaign until he was taken Prisoner.

I can assure you when he was last seen in German hands he was in the best of health and making a joke of things, how I know this is because some men who were taken with him were left in Hospital by the Jerry's and I have spoken to them as they have since been overun by our troops.

There is still a hope of his quick release but until then don't worry to much as Jerry has a great respect for British soldiers.

Well I must close now so cheerio for the Present.
