From my grandmother who wrote and kept all the letters to her son who was captured on the 25/26 of May 1940 defending the retreat. He was held prisoner until the end of the war. This letter was sent to him at Stalag XXA (37) in Germany.
Transcript:
I have received three letters and card from you the first mail since June. Yes I have been worried about you but I am very glad to hear that you are fine. Also glad that you like the camp and farm. You say that you didn't know that Grandma had died until you got my first letter. I have another surprise for you. Grandfather collapsed and died in Landsdourne Rd on his way home on September 15th on a Friday night. What a shock for us, the police got us out of bed at 2 oclock in the morning. Well Frank I have received photo and it is a very good one, I must say that you all look well, and you don't seem to have altered, you don't look any older to me. I think you are right when you say that Georgie looks older than you. I am still without mail from Georgie it is three months since I got a letter so I can't say what is happeneing I believe Auntie Mary wrote and told him off. I sent him a cable for his 23rd birthday on November 11th but he hasn't even answered that. If I do hear from him I will let you know. Dad is doing alright. He has just been making a right din of sharpening a saw also cleaning a plane that belongs to you because it was rusty, Nigger is still going strong he has had five years with us now.
