Craftsman Leonard Eldridge to his mother Florence

This is a letter written by my Uncle Leonard Eldridge or Lembo as he was nicknamed. He served in the R.E.M.E during WW2 firstly in Dunkirk and then in the second wave of fighting at Tobruk where unfortunately he was captured and taken to Italy. He got dysentery and was taken to the hospital there, near Caserta. He passed away on the 24th December 1942 and is buried in the war cemetery in Caserta.

This letter was given to me by my Mum, Beryl Tribe née Clark, Len’s younger sister. Her Mum Florence May Clark née Eldridge passed it to my Mum for safe keeping. Hopefully future generations will see it.

A sad letter written to his Mum, Florence May Clark née Eldridge.
