Alexander Wivell to his son George Wivell

After my mother died, I found a small box with various documents along with a few letters. The one attached is to my father from his father.

Transcript:

Dear George,

Many of them, that is the best we can do at present, we received you last two letters together one dated 5-9-42 the other 8/11/42 and thanks for card they came to remind us of your birthday this morning and was we glad to get them, your mother was saying that it is very funny you not getting any of ours their must be at least 25 letters somewhere along with aergraphs, and I hope you have one or two before you get this, it does liven things up, just keep your chin up and keep writing your sure to get some, well let us hope so, Well by the time you get this Christmas will be well over, I think it is going to be a very quiet one with the two of you away it will not be the same, but I hope this will be the last one that we shall not be together. That looks A nice shif by the photo if it goes the same as it looks
