When my father died in 2003 my sister Barbara and I discovered an enormous cache of letters between our mum Ilma and Albert.
They were devoted to each other and married on 17 March 1945. From the context and enormity of these letters it was fairly obvious that these communications were a vital part of their mental and physical survival.
We are so grateful for their brave and loyal services to our nation. They are always in our hearts.
Albert sent this letter from the front in Germany. Ilma was living in Newmarket Suffolk at the time.
