"I have been trying to buy cloth to send to you to make jodphurs"
Grandfather was in India and he was writing to his daughter asking about the size of jodphurs she needs.
She was the middle of three sisters. She wrote back with the sizes for all three sisters. The jodphurs were made to measure and were posted home and fitted perfectly.

My dear Betty,
Thanks for your [unclear] which I received on the 11th December. I am [unclear] you and the last I wrote was to Jessie. Tell Maisie that her turn to [unclear] and I hope to write her soon. Well I have been trying to buy cloth to send to you to make jodphurs but they won't sell it to me. They want to make them or nothing. Well I won't promise anything for I don't know what Lucknow is like for getting things made but if you send me your measurements. [Drawing of legs showing each of the measurements.] First the waist - just above your hip bones. Then the width round your hips just with the [unclear]. The height from the ground to the top of your hip bones standing with your legs together. Then between your legs. You do round the knees and under the knee cap and round the widest part of your calf and any other measurements you think will help and mark them on a drawing something like what I have given. I will try and see what I can do and perhaps bring them home with me. You can also ask Jessie and Maisie that if they write me and send me there sizes in full I will try and get slacks made for them. As I say I don't know what Lucknow will be like and if there are any tailors or if the tailors have cloth but I will try.
Hope every one is ok and that you are getting on all right at the college.
All the best and lots of love.
Your loving dad
