"Well Mother, what sort of Christmas did you have at home? As for me, I had a good dinner and two pints of beer."
This is my father’s letter to his Mother, written December 1944.
It was discovered in 2011 at his sisters home.
Frank was in the Pacific at the time he wrote the letter, he was a Royal Marine on Force X as part of the Pacific Fleet.
The letter asks about the family and describes him being homesick and missing being home with his family at Christmas. He describes a very basic Christmas aboard Emperor Aquabus.
He spent five years away from 1941-46.

My Dear Mother,
Many thanks for your most welcome air letters received to day Wed [unclear]. I was ever so glad to hear from you again, yes Mother dear receiving yours and Renee's letters okay now, so ever thing is oaky once more. Well Mother, I'll do as you say and not worry to much about Renee, but I will cant help think about her, and wishing I were home. Well Mother, what sort of Christmas did you have at home? As for me, I had a good dinner and two pints of beer that's about all, but we did not do to bad. Well Im glad to hear that you and everybody at home are keeping okay, as for myself, am still keeping fine, so dont worry, Mother. I don't know what has happened to that parcel but you should have got it by this time, anyway I hope you do get it. well I'll close now Mother and write a letter tomorrow so good night and God Bless you Mother & all at home with tones of love from your ever loving son.
