The letter was written by Joan to Robert whilst he was away during the second world war, he was posted in Egypt. She sent him a postcard of Childwall Church, the church where they got married the year before in 1941, and where he first told her he loved her.
Robert was medically discharged after he was wounded and made it back to Joan. They went on to have two children together, Robert and Janet. When my Grandad (Robert) passed away, the letter became my Mother’s and she has shared it with us over the years. My Nanna (Joan) passed away when my Mum was only three and her brother, seven, so the letter is very special as we are able to see her writing and hear her words.
I’ve included a photo of them on their wedding day at Childwall Church, Liverpool.
