"Grub's about the same but we get a can of beer now. The Teetotallers are very popular but we have a miserable few"
I was going through a memory box of my late grandma. Amongst the bits and pieces were postcards from her brother Joe, that she received during the war and some photos of him. There was also this letter from him.
Transcript:
My dear Emily,
I haven't heard from you since you wrote in December. I hope you are alright. I have very little news to relate. I am perfectly well and am at the moment attached to a field ambulance. There's not a rush of work but quite enough. Grub's about the same but we get a can of beer now. The Teetotallers are very popular but we have a miserable few. Of course we pay for the ale but its rationed and only one can per man. I hope the boys are well. I'd love to see them.
Tell Harry I'll have lots to tell him. I hope it will be soon. Cheerio my dear. Heaps and heaps of love from Joe xxxx
