"Leah told me all about my Mam and the way she took my place for me - she is a little brick."
This letter is from my grandad to my grandmother in 1944.
The letter is very sad because while he is in the army away at war over Christmas time, his mother passed away at home. He was informed of his mum’s death while having a Christmas celebration. The letter also mentions my mum (Curly) who is now 84. His older daughter Leah had to take his place after his mum passed away because he could not come home.
My grandad came home from the war and lived into his 70s. After he died my mother was given the letter, she gave it to me and I kept it safe since then.
