These letters were sent from Ron to his wife, Florence in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, in May 1945. Ron was a POW firstly in Italy from September 1942 until September 1943 and then recaptured by Germans becoming another POW from September 1943 until May 1945.
Ron’s letters and war diary as a POW was only found after his wife died in 2003. His own daughter had no idea he had kept any of this and she never remembers him talking about it. I’m his oldest granddaughter. In 2020 I’ve transcribed his war diary notes and put together a file with them, photos and letters.
Ronald Daniells was in the Royal Artillery (Army number 1092945) He was born in 31.01.1909 and died in 13.5.1970.
He married his wife Florence (known as Ciss) on 8.8.1936. They had two children: Ann born in 1938 (my mum) and Bob born 1940.
Ann was just 2 1/2 and Bob 16 months when their daddy went to war. They were 6 1/2 and nearly 5 1/2 when he came home!
