Between them my parents wrote 1194 letters to each other during the war.
They were kept by my mum and dad after the war in a cardboard box which was hidden in the loft. I only found the box after my parents had died when their house was to be sold.
There were other letters also to dad from his parents, describing the hardships of the blitz and the blackout and how my grandfather spent his nights watching for enemy parachutists.
My dad wrote this to my mum in Brighton, Sussex the day before he came home in August 1946.
