Bill Thompson to Sarah Thompson

The letter was in the possession of my uncle (William John Thompson’s brother).

I used to visit him on a regular basis and often talked about his brother (my Uncle Bill). He showed me the letters that were sent to their mother in Sunderland Co, Durham.

William John was killed in action (K.I.A) at le Mesnil Normandy on 8/7/1944, a few weeks after he wrote this letter.  He is buried in Ranville War Cemetery. He was in the parachute regiment 6th airborne div. He was killed by mortar shell.
